Impact Sports Academy – Girls in Flag Clinic 2/21

Impact Sports Academy held their third females in flag football clinic this past Saturday from 12pm - 2pm. Our next females in flag clinic will be held March 7th, with our spring season beginning March 22nd. Registration closes March 9th, so get in while you can.

Thanks to the help of 804Mafia and the Richmond Black Widows, we had over 20 girls ages 6-17 working on the fundamentals of flag while also training to become a better athlete. It was some girls' first time ever playing flag football, and not only did they say they had fun, they all had different answers when it came to their favorite parts of the day.

Our athletes showed interest in all types of drills, like Jordyn, who said she preferred to play defense and pull flags, or Chloe, who said her favorite drill was the “snake.”

Other drills that girls worked on consisted of catching drills, quarterback throwing practice, overall agility work, and at the end there was a fun, competitive game between the athletes.

When asked if they see themselves coming back to continue playing flag, the answer was a resounding “yes!”

Sha Maclin, owner of the only women’s flag football team in the 804 area, 804Mafia, spoke about why she loves giving back to the community through these clinics.

“We love giving back to the community because this is something that was never offered to us as kids,” said Maclin. “Now as adults, we would love to expand the game and give the girls a chance to grow.”

Then there’s Daniella, a player for the 804mafia team. She was also asked about why she enjoys these clinics. She dove into the true impact that she can have on other females trying to get into flag football.

“We have so much talent and so much interest that it’s so much encouragement to just keep going and continue being role models, and positive support and reinforcement for the clinic.”
